Maintaining & Promoting Oral Health with Parkinson’s
Dr. Rick Jackomis, DDS

Dr. Jackomis will focus upon the delivery and need for dental care as it pertains to patients with complex medical concerns and aging. Particular focus will be upon the complexity of care and management of Patients with Parkinson’s Disease as they present with some unique challenges.

He will focus upon the issues the disease presents for the patient and the clinical challenges for dental care provider. Moreover, he will promote ways to maintain and promote the patient oral health.

Dr. Rick Jackomis, DDS is a practicing general dentist with over twenty years of clinical experience. His practice has a growing focus on an aging population, implant-based dental solutions, and the use of advanced technology for the delivery of care. He teach these topics and procedures to other dentists. He is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, a graduate of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and a graduate of the Valparaiso University School of Law. He is a member of numerous professional dental associations, study clubs and an associate member of the Virginia State Bar Association. He is also a public speaker for a couple of dental technology corporations and provide litigation support for malpractice and board complaint matters.

Benefits of staying active and exercise for people with Parkinson’s disease has been well documented. Even some research has hinted that Parkinson’s disease progression can be slowed or improved with regular exercise. When someone diagnosed with Parkinson’s, there are many questions about what kind of exercise is best??

Rock Steady Boxing coach & affiliate owner Anne-Marie Ford will share her experience for over six years as a Rock Steady Boxing coach and personal trainer. She started as a volunteer with the RSB Nova program in Tysons Corner. Eventually, she became an assistant coach in the program. Today, she is the owner of RSB Nova and manages two Rock Steady Boxing locations in Northern Virginia: one in Tysons Corner and Sterling. RSB Nova also provides virtual classes via Zoom for those who want to participate in the boxing classes.

Anne-Marie will discuss the importance of exercise and physical activity, balance training, gait exercises, stretching and strengthening, and cardio, She will also discuss how the caregiver/carepartner and family members are important partners on the team.

My Parkinson’s Journey  – The Positive Side of Parkinson’s Disease with Sharon Krischer

Sharon Krischer was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in October 2009 after several years of experiencing odd symptoms. Ever since she has read everything she could find on Parkinson’s with the goal of finding a way to move on – literally – and not be defeated by the disease. A busy person prior to her diagnosis, she continues to find ways to fit more into her days than most people.

Sharon writes a blog: “Twitchy Woman’s Adventures with Parkinson’s” to encourage the exchange of ideas and solutions with other whose lives have been affected. Since the start of the pandemic, Sharon has been hosting a twice monthly Zoom series for women with Parkinson’s called Sunday Mornings with Twitchy Woman. Most recently, Twitchy Woman sponsored 11 women to attend the World Parkinson Congress in Barcelona in July 2023. Sharon is a respected leader in the worldwide Parkinson’s community. Come and listen as Sharon shares her experiences and journey with Parkinson’s disease.
