In honor of World Parkinson’s Day (April 11) and International Dance Day (April 29), more than fifteen dance organizations have come together to celebrate the vibrant diversity of Dance for Parkinson’s programs in ten countries.
Every day or two, starting April 11, we’ll be featuring a different Dance for Parkinson’s program, presenting documentaries, class videos and other resources that highlight the richness of Dance for Parkinson’s practice around the world.
Join us for the culmination of the project on World Dance for Parkinson’s Day—April 29—when you’ll be able to dance your way from New York to London, Pune to Brisbane, Amsterdam to Tel Aviv, and many places in between.
At our cafes we’ve heard about some of the things people like to do. Some that we’ve heard about include learning to speak Polish, macramé, basket weaving, photography, writing poetry, baking, gardening, rock climbing, traveling and watching grandchildren grow up.
Let’s share our stories (you can bring samples or photos, too) about the things we like to do and discover the things we have in common apart from life with Parkinson’s. I believe we’ll be pleasantly surprised and it will be fun to connect in these other ways.
Our café is free and you’re welcome to bring munchies to share!

We’ll meet here on the 3rd Wednesday of each month as of April 19. Please help us spread the word to our Parkinson community friends in Loudoun county!
For our first café, we’ll meet our hostess, Chrystal Todd, and learn more about this brand new community. We’ll also read our proclamation from the governor recognizing April as Parkinson Awareness Month, and share our stories about the things we like to do.

In recognition of April as Parkinson’s Awareness Month, several local Parkinson support groups will be sharing information about Parkinson’s to increase the understanding of the needs of someone living with Parkinson’s.
This is a joint effort of the Parkinson Social Network, the Fair Oaks Parkinson’s support group and the Women with Parkinson’s Disease support group.
We’ll be at Inova’s Fair Oaks hospital from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on the following days:
Monday, April 3 Friday, April 7
Monday, April 24 Friday, April 28
We would really love your help – people living with Parkinson’s, their families and friends – to help us on one of these days, even if it’s only for an hour, to hand out printed material and chat with staff and the visitors.
If you’d like to help, please contact Sonia at Sonia@PatientsArePeopleToo.com or at (703) 378-7221.
