Posted on

Come for the coffee, stay for the company and conversation!
Our cafés are free and you’re welcome to bring munchies to share.

Can you hear me now?
Are you having trouble hearing? Or are you hard to hear?

This month at our cafés we can talk about both because May is Better Hearing and Speech month.

Monday, May 8, 10:00 am – 12 noon
Café in Fairfax

Joining our conversation is Bonnie B. O’Leary,
Outreach Manager, Certified Peer Mentor and Hearing Loss Support Specialist
Northern Virginia Resource Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons (www.nvrc.org)

I’m so excited to introduce Bonnie to you! I’ve heard her speak several times and always learn something new.
Bonnie will share with us what life is like for people experiencing hearing loss, and answer your questions about the technology that is available to help people hear better.  Insight_logo_bw

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month

Posted on

We have two cafés and an outreach event this month!

Monday, April 10, 10:00 am – 12 noon
Café in Fairfax

What gets you going in the morning? What brings you joy?

At our cafes we’ve heard about some of the things people like to do. Some that we’ve heard about include learning to speak Polish, macramé, basket weaving, photography, writing poetry, baking, gardening, rock climbing, traveling and watching grandchildren grow up.

Let’s share our stories (you can bring samples or photos, too) about the things we like to do and discover the things we have in common apart from life with Parkinson’s. I believe we’ll be pleasantly surprised and it will be fun to connect in these other ways.

But wait! There’s more!!

We’ll read the  proclamation from Governor Terry McAuliffe recognizing April as Parkinson’s Awareness Month and our spotlight will be on a new, very local pharmacy, Revolution Meds.

Monday, April 24        Friday, April 28

We would really love your help – people living with Parkinson’s, their families and friends – to help us on one of these days, even if it’s only for an hour, to hand out printed material and chat with staff and the visitors.
